Through the United States, there are different types of communities with qualities that make them unique. Some of them have a better economic situation than others as well as a better physical appearance. Sometimes one underestimates the power of the aesthetics of a place. The appearance of a place can make you feel better, more comfortable and safer. This idea is shared by Bill de Blasio, the current mayor of New York City. Mayor de Blasio wants to create 200,000 affordable apartments in a period of ten years. These apartments will not be the regular box style apartments that one may see in certain communities yet, they will be futuristic designed buildings such as the “Gasometer” bellow.
Trying to build these types of buildings would benefit the city in different aspects. An affordable house can make an individual be happier and achieve his/her dream of having their own house. However, before thinking about them consider the idea of whether or not this project could be possibly achieved. I consider it has a higher probability of happening because citizens may not see an increase in their tax payment. I know that such an architectonic design could benefit the community, but the time and current conditions are not the best for such a big project to happen now. I agree that low income family deserve a decent apartment to live in, yet, these type of buildings are not the right ones for them. If you look at the image bellow, I consider these houses would be better for those residents that need an affordable housing. Thinking about big projects doesn’t always work, it is better to set a certain amount of little goals and achieve them on a timely manner.
