Check this video out first, it will help set the mood with regards to America’s competitive and innovative nature.

The development of our country throughout history has seen a fluctuation of it’s population moving toward and away from cities. Most people tend to now live in the suburbs and commute to work in cities. That shift of people also changed the way our infrastructure and cities were planned, as highways were expanded and built into every corner of the nation. This allowed the automobile to become the number one motor transportation for the American people. Airports and airplanes were also expanded to accommodate our needs to travel longer distances in short periods of time. This is the very reason why the United States led the world economically for such a long period of time. It is because we had the best infrastructure in the world. Our highways, automobiles, airplanes, and ports were new and efficient. However, time and economic setbacks have allowed other countries to catch up to us in infrastructure efficiency. It’s not surprising then that the American Society of Civil Engineers continually rates our overall infrastructure with a D+. The American standard should never be at a D+. It is down right unacceptable to consider ourselves one of the most powerful countries in the world, yet have a below-average infrastructure compared to the rest of the world.

Few times people hear all the new ideas coming out of our nations innovators in order to fix our infrastructure. A few of these people happen to be our Vice President, Joe Biden, and South African businessman and inventor, Elon Musk. To me these are two peoples’ ideas that stand out as one of the most viable fixes for our broken infrastructure. On one side, Biden proposed a high-speed Rail system that connects major cities of our nation.  On the other side Musk presents his futuristic mode of transportation called a hyperloop. The hyperloop is a tubelike capsule that carries passengers at over 500 mph to their destinations.  The reason why I like Biden’s proposition for a high-speed railway system is because taking a train to your destination is simply faster, more efficient, and less dangerous for people and the environment. The hyperlink may not be in our grasp anytime soon, but high-speed trains have also been in use for a long time, especially in places like Japan and Europe. If the United States wants to regain its spot at the top of innovativeness and technology, I think a fusion of Mr. Musk and VP Biden’s ideas are a very good way to get there. This is why am excited to see how the future will unfold in regards to our infrastructure, and how our government, alongside the private sector, will solve the problem of our outdated infrastructure.
